1. Sign up and log in

I can’t sign up

Please make sure that you’ve entered all information correctly and completely and that your password consists of 5 characters. Please check that you’ve accepted the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy. After your registration is done, we will send an email with your registration confirmation to the email address you have given.

I can’t log in

Before using takethechance you have to sign up by hitting „take the chance – register now!“. If you already have an account, please check you’ve entered all information correctly and completely, except you log in via Facebook. Also make sure you have received the registration email and confirmed your registration by clicking on the activation link. In the case that the Facebook link doesn’t work, check your Facebook settings and make sure that other apps are allowed to access your Facebook account.

Do I have to sign up via Facebook?

No, you don’t have to. You are free to decide if you want to sign up via Facebook or email. If you do not use Facebook or don’t want to sign up via your Facebook account, you can sign up via email easily by hitting „take the chance – register now!“. Now you just have to enter all information required and you can start using „take the chance“.

Do I have to sign up separately, if I have a Facebook account?

No, you don’t have to. If you want to sign up via your Facebook account, just tap the „Login with Facebook“ button. Before you do that, check your Facebook settings and make sure that other apps are allowed to access your Facebook account.

Didn’t get the confirmation email?

As it can occasionally happen, that emails arrive in the spam mail folder by mistake, check the junk mail folder of your email account. If you couldn’t find the email and also didn’t receive it after 1 or 2 minutes, verify the email address provided. If you gave the wrong email address to us, just create a whole new account with your correct email address.

Do I have to create a new account each time if I do not login via Facebook?

No, you don’t have to. After you have signed up to takethechance and activated your account by clicking on the link in the confirmation mail, just press the “Login” button and enter your email address and password.

Forgot your password?

If you forgot your password, first hit the „Login“ button, then click on the „Forgot your password?“ button and enter your email address. We will send you an email with a link which enables you to reset your password. You can also change your password on our website at any time.

How to change your password

If you want to change your password, first hit the „Login“ button, then click on the „Forgot your password?“ button and enter your email address. We will send you an email with a link which enables you to reset your password.

2. Settings and profile

If I use the app and the website, do I have to change each settings for my profile or for searching every single time?

No matter on which device you use our service, your settings will be synchronized automatically, provided that you are connected to the Internet. Of course you can change your settings at any time and with any Internet-enabled device.

You have problems with uploading or changing your profile picture?

Please note, that the maximum file size is limited to 5 MB and that .jpg, .png and .gif are the accepted file formats. Additionally, it is possible to use QR codes. If you want to take a picture with your webcam, please check that the webcam is on and functional. If you are logged in via Facebook, simply update your profile picture of your Facebook account, log out and log back in on takethechance. Now your profile picture should also be updated on takethechance.

Takethechance says “There are no new people in your area at the moment.”

If no more new persons are shown to you, maybe you should extend your search settings by increasing your distance. If you use our service via the website, you can choose any location by hitting the „Change filter criteria“ button and changing your area settings. Now you can look for people in the closer vicinity as well as anywhere else.

I can’t change my settings

If you want to change your settings via the takethechance app, please make sure that you have the latest version of the app. If this is not the case, perform an update or uninstall the app and download the latest version from your Google Play or App store. Of course it is possible to change your settings via the website.

How do I edit my profile?

Changes on your profile can be made easily via the app by selecting “search criteria” or “profile settings” in the left header bar. If you want to make the changes via the website, simply tap on the little wheel icon and make the desired changes.

How do I deactivate my profile?

In order to deactivate your profile, contact our support team.

How do I rotate my profile picture?

Log in via the website and move your mouse over the top right corner of your profile picture. Now you can rotate your profile picture. Note: You can only rotate your picture, if you are not logged in via Facebook, but via your email address.

3. Matches and search

What does the „take the chance“ button in the app mean?

Tapping that button starts the search for people in your area. For this purpose, your settings will be considered and takethechance will find people near you. The pumping takethechance heart shows you, that people near you are searched currently. As soon as the play button appears, you can tap on it.

How do I get Matches?

Depending on your settings regarding sex, area and age range takethechance will represent appropriate people when you’re searching. So takethechance will also suggest people to you, who have other settings regarding type of relation (relationship, just fun, friendship). This serves the protection of the user’s privacy, because it’s not recognisable at first sight what this person is looking for – just as in real life. Only when the person also likes you and searches for the same type of relationship, you can communicate with them. When this happens, a pop-up window appears and you can start communicating directly with the respective person. If you are not online at the moment, you receive a notification, that you’ve got a Match and the person will be shown on your list of Matches. That means, you can stand a good chance as soon as you’ve got a Match with someone.

Will I lose my Matches if I delete the app?

No, deleting the app from your device won't delete any of your Matches. You can continue using takethechance via the website and all your Matches will remain in the system. You can download the app again any time you want from your Google Play or App store.

I can’t see my Matches

Please make sure that you have the latest version of the app. If this is not the case, perform an update or uninstall the app and download the latest version from your Google Play or App store. If you have the latest version of the app, log out and log back in – now you should be able to see all your Matches. If only one or two of your Matches disappeared, they either blocked you or deactivated their account.

Where can I see my Matches?

When using the app, you can see your Matches in the navigation options. To open them, just tap the „Matches“ button. Now you should see all your Matches. If you’re using our service via the website, you just have to log in and click on the takethechance heart icon to see all your Matches.

One of my Matches disappeared

Please check that you have the latest version of the app. If only one or two of your Matches disappeared, they either blocked you or deleted their account. To be sure, log out and log back in.

I got a new Match notification but I can’t see a new Match

Go to the overview of your Matches and search for the name with the magnifier icon at the top right in the header bar. If you still can’t find the Match, the other user either blocked you or deleted their account. To be sure, log out and log back in.

How to delete Matches?

You can delete a Match by blocking the other user. To do so, click on the Match in the app and then select the icon of the three dots at the top right in the header bar. Hit „Block user“ and confirm with „Yes“. If you’re using the website, open the overview of your Matches, click the right mouse button on the respective name and select „Block user“. Now you’ve deleted this Match and it’s no more possible for the other user to contact you.

Can i mute a Match?

Yes, you can. Select the respective user in your Match overview and click on the speaker icon. If the icon is crossed out, the Match is mute.

I don’t have any Matches

You need to allow time for people to like you back. Sometimes it can take a while to get Matches. Maybe you should try to update your profile picture; a mediocre profile picture is often the reason for a low number of „Likes“.

Can I block a Match?

To do so, click on the Match in the app and then select the icon of the three dots at the top right in the header bar. Hit „Block user“ and confirm with „Yes“. If you’re using the website, open the overview of your Matches, click the right mouse button on the respective name and select „Block user“. Now you’ve deleted this Match and it’s no more possible for the other user to contact you.

Can I unblock someone?

No, that’s not possible. As soon as you’ve blocked someone, this person is completely removed from your Matches overview and can no longer send you messages. The same applies to you, if you’re being blocked.

4. Messages

I got a new message notification but I can’t see the message

Please check if you have the latest version of the app. If necessary, perform an update or uninstall the app and download the latest version from your Google Play or App store. Go to the overview of your Matches and search for the name with the magnifier icon at the top right in the header bar. If you still can’t find the Match, the other user either blocked you or deleted their account. Just to be sure, log out and log back in.

How to delete messages?

You can delete messages one by one or delete a group of messages from a certain user. To delete messages separately by using the app, tap on the selected message for approximately 2 seconds. Now a pop-up window appears showing „delete message“. Tapping on it and confirming your action will delete the message. To delete all messages in the app, open a certain Match and select the icon of the three dots at the top right in the header bar. A pop-up window appears showing „delete all messages“. Tapping on it and confirming your action will delete all messages. On the website you can delete messages by clicking the right mouse button on the respective message and select „delete message“.

My messages are not going through

Please make sure your internet connection is strong enough. If this is not the case, wait until your internet connection is stable and try again. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Maybe you should check if you have the latest version of the app or log out and log back in and try again.

I do not receive messages or the chat doesn’t work

Make sure you have the latest version of the app. Try to perform an update or uninstall the app and download the latest version from your Google Play or App store. If the issue persists on the website, refresh the page and log out and log back in.

5. Other questions

I can’t download the app from my Google Play or App store

Please check that you have enough capacity on your end device. Usually it is displayed if you don’t have enough free capacity. Try to delete applications, which you don’t really need and try again. You should also check, if your internet connection is strong enough.

The app always crashes

Make sure you have the latest version of the app. Try to perform an update or uninstall the app and download the latest version from your Google Play or App store. You can also try to restart your smartphone. Of course all your Matches and settings are stored and therefore not lost.

How can I remove the advertisements in the app?

The ads can be removed by upgrading to the version free of advertising. To do so, select the „Upgrade“ button in the navigation options, then hit „take the chance – upgrade now!“ and add your payment data via your store – now you can start using the version free of advertising. You can also upgrade by redeeming a voucher code: Type in the code on the Upgrade site and tap „Upgrade now“.

Which benefits can I expect from upgrading the app?

Upgrading the app enables you to find what you really want without being disturbed by any advertisements.

The selected payment method doesn’t work

Please make sure you’ve entered all information correctly and completely and try again. Maybe you should restart the app and try again.

Can I undo a lost swipe?

Unfortunately it’s not possible to undo a lost swipe.
